I live in Texas and don't get to go too often so I can't justify spending much. I am an intermediate skier, 150 lbs, 5'8". Any suggestions on buying an inexpensive pair of used skis?

rent/demo.  Simple and easy solution.  if you are going to spend anything, spend it on properly fitting boots,  Just to be clear, ski boots..........  (ur are from texas right?) ;)

Yes I'm a Texan and besides my cowboy boots I also have a good pair of Atomic ski boots bought last year. I would really rather buy skis than stand in line to rent. I checked out a skill level chart and I am what they called level 5 intermediate. So what would be a good used ski to look for that I could get a few seasons use out of?

I have a pair of Salomon XSxream 168cm but I'm not sure about the length. They seem like they might be too long. I'm thinking I need about 160cm. Does that sound about right?

Not too sure about the XSxream, but length should be ok for 150 lbs unless you are skiing in deeper snow or high speed off-piste where they might be a bit short.  Maybe  5 cm too long if you are concentrating on carving short turns on hard snow/ice.

Welcome to EpicSki!  Where to you plan to ski this winter?  Do you usually go for a week or just a few days at a time?  The other factor to consider when you have your own skis is dealing with them on an airplane.

For long weekends, definitely makes sense to get a pair of skis given that you have boots already.  Can't help with specific ski suggestions, but hopefully someone will chime in soon.

As for length, what have been renting?  If you haven't checked out the First Run Articles, click on Articles on the menu bar at the top.  You may also find useful threads in the Beginner Zone, which is actually more for intermediates than novices starting their first season.
