Off-piste ski comparisons

Thread Starter
Been on Volant Powercarve for 4 years; now looking for an off-piste "big mountain" ski. Have demoed Rossi B3, K2 XP, Volkl Pro, Pocket Rocket. Liked B3 and XP best so far for powder, crud, and all mountain performance. Haven't been able to demo the Elan Mantis 777, or Dynastar Legend 8000 or ??. I ski mostly (80%) off-piste, have skiied 55 years, and find the choices somewhat bewildering, Considering the cost of these performance skiis, can't afford to make the wrong choice. Any feedback would be appreciated.

I think you sell yourself short if you don't at least try the Fischer Big Stix FX 8.6

If you have the opportunity, try the Head Mad Trix Mojo. Same dimentions as the Pocket rocket, but a little stiffer with a wood core. This has been my powder and soft snow ski this year, and it's a blast, and one of the cheaper ones also. I recomend it highly.

The Mojo actually is a bit wider than the PR, but I second that choice.

If you liked the PowerKarve why not try the new Chubb V2?

Out of what you've tried, I'd go XP.

Out of what you haven't, 777. Wicked good ski.
