Option 2- Hotwire has a 2-star in Layton/Clearfield for $42 including breakfast. Snowbasin multi-day tix are cheap on Liftopia, and Snowbasin has blues galore. Plus, you're shooting distance to LCC and BCC if you want a day there.
I don't know what flight prices / airlines you're looking at, but if you fly Southwest (where bags are included) you could DEFINITELY do the flight + car + hotel + tix for the same or less than your flight (plus bags) to Whistler... and have a MUCH higher chance of good conditions!
Has anyone ever seen in "bad" in BCC? In my trips to Utah, I've never done well in the snow dept, but have always been amazed how good the snow is there.
In Jan 2003, for the first ESA at Brighton, the conditions were "the worst in twenty [something] years". There were articles in the NYTimes about how bad it was. Meanwhile, back in Vermont it started "dumping" - 18 inches. People told me "too bad you're not here". Not. Even though it was "bad" it was better than Vermont. Then after a few days it snowed some and it was "barely acceptable". Pretty damn good in my book.
