Twochordcool needs to meet gpaulski.
In fall 2005 gpaulski booked Christmas/early January in the Sierra, flying into LA from the Dominican Republic where he lives. Due to warm temps/high snow levels he was advised to take his time elsewhere in California, then go to Mammoth where he was booked starting Jan. 4. He went to Reno first anyway, got rained on for 3 days.
In 2007 he inquired about taking an Easter break trip to Quebec, generated 4 pages of suggestions and analysis and took no trip anywhere.
In fall 2012 gpaulski wanted to go to Colorado and the Southwest for Christmas/early January. He was advised that Southwest areas were speculative in early season but booked Tellurude and Crested Butte anyway. Landing in Denver with a car for 2+ weeks he knew of the disastrous start last season, once again was advised to go elsewhere but persisted with Telluride 14% open and Crested Butte 30% open during peak holiday season.
This season gpaulski did much better with the snow in Utah, Jackson and Big Sky. Some of you may recall that he loves to ski LSG's (his acronym for long steep groomers) but in the thread it came out that he skis on 150cm skis because "he has trouble turning anything longer." Further inquiry revealed that he uses rental boots on these trips. Gpaulski was advised to spend some time getting proper boots and taking some lessons to analyze both his skiing and for equipment suggestions. He once again rented boots, leaving toe buckles unbuckles due to discomfort, and took no lessons. On January 9 he broke his shoulder skiing at Canyons.
At some point we need to stop feeding the trolls.
However, I think it would be nicer for everybody involved (including the OP in threads of this sort) if people who serially start advice threads yet take no advice from said threads would just preface their stuff with "I'm excited about skiing this year and just want to BS and dream about ski equipment, places I could go etc." There are plenty of threads like that may devolve into opinionated chest beating but at least don't leave people infuriated with somebody that started the thread asking for advice that they totally ignore.
GPaulski should have rolled to WC in Christmas 2012. Wolf Creek had nothing until Mid December but was 100% open and getting hammered over and over and over by Christmas and New Years.
