Need help picking my new set of skis!!!

I'm torn and could use some help. I currently ski on a pair of Fischer RX9 170's that I bought for adult racing about 8 years ago. I'm 37, about 200lbs, 5 feet 8 inches tall, and a pretty damn good skiier. Been skiing almost all my life. My knees are pretty beat up but I love to ski. I'm thinking I want to go wider and I have 2 pairs that I am looking at that are last years models. I don't want to spend crazy money and I can get a deal on the 2 below:

2013
Elan Amphibio waveflex 78 size 168

2013
Rossignol Ecperience 88 size 178

I ski in New England on groomed snow and ice. I really want a ski that I can keep control of but still have an easy day on my knees. I was thinking that the 168 was a good size but with all the new technology I dont know what matters.

Any help or tips would be appericated.

Your about 173 cm tall, so a 168 could work.  I am not sure you would like the longer 178.  Both skis you mentioned are great skis. I am partial to the Elan's, as I bought the Amphio 88 xti.  There are many threads here that talk about both skis if you do a search.

Shorter is alway easier to turn, and narrower torques the knees less. Unless you are doing powder or very high speeds stay short!

I could also get the Elan's in a 176
