You are right, that is NOT typical. In fact, traffic from home to Idaho Springs was light, really. (I started thinking it wouldn't be a big deal. oops. ) I braved it, took me 4 hr from home. I sat on the frontage road between Idaho Springs and Dumont for 1.5 hr, but then the frontage road started moving well at Dumont. It was definitely better to be on it rather than I-70, at least past Dumont. It was about even before ... they were diverting the I-70 traffic at 40 and then back into Georgetown. Still a big police presence when we passed the scene (just on the east end of Georgetown) at about 8:30.
I left home thinking I would go 285 through Breck, but I changed my mind at the last second... Oh well. The frontage road was really pretty, lined with snow-covered trees. And we were stuck behind a CME van, could access their wifi... lol.
