I am buying my son some new boards for a combined Christmas/birthday present. Based on the type of skier he is I am 90% sold on the Salomon Quest 98's. He mainly skis in the trees/side country in Northern VT and is a pretty good skier. Prefers maneuverability to stability. Spends as little time as possible on groomers.
He is 20 years old, 5'10" and skinny, around 160 or so lbs. So back to my question: what size? He has been on his current skis Rossi B2's around 160cm for the past 4 or 5 years. We demoed the Rossi 7S last season in 188 and he skied fine on them, but they are so floppy on the front it was like skiing something 6" shorter. I am thinking 172cm but with rocker do the Sollies ski a lot shorter as well? 180Cm sounds a bit long to me.
Thoughts? Are there other skis I should be looking at as well?
