I got fit for a 30.5 shell with a 105 width liner. This boot shows an 80 degree flex. It fits great, but my instructor says that I really need around 100 in flex to take me into advanced country. What say you? Thanks...

GaryO,

How much do you weigh? How tall?

Flex varies, depending on brand.

Read the following: http://epicski.onthesnow.com/a/boot-fitting-which-boot-will-work-for-me

How does the boot you have compare to the way this article says a boot should fit?  pay attention to "shell fit" info and do it to you boots.

Go for the highest number boot flex your budget will allow---at least 120 flex.  The boot could then support your body weight and not let you overflex it and get too far out on the front of the ski (fore/aft balance issue).

Well, this morning I went to Any Mountain store in Roseville, CA and got my first formal boot fitting of the new age. Things sure have changed in 20 years. Turns out I needed a 29.5 shell size and not a 30.5 like my previous boot. The young man also worked on the toe area by heating the liner and stretching it a bit to give me a little more room in that area. These boots now do feel like a firm handshake with no pain or tightness anywhere. Now I ski and we tweak from there if needed. Any Mountain guarantees that I will be happy or they will work or exchange until I am. Nice young folks over there. BTW; I ended up with Atomic Hawks in 100 flex. Beautiful top quality boots, I'm told...

P.S. I bought a pair of boots for my oldest daughter and son-in-law there last year as a gift; my daughter loves her boots and has not had to adapt hers at all. My son-in-law has had 2 tweaking sessions so far but that does not surprise me because his feet resemble Sasquatch's...
