Off piste in Val Thorens/3 valleys?

Thread Starter

Hi all,

Looking for some advice, going skiing to the Val Thorens in france for the first time this january and looking to do some off piste skiing. Any suggestions/recommendations? 2 of us going, friend is a boarder, I'm a skier so something good for both formats would be great!

Cheers,

Adrian.

You'll probably have better luck in the Europe section or another board. Epicski is very heavily made up of North American skiers

Consider hiring a guide- off piste is not as av secure in Europe and is much more similar to back country here.

Also, it is a huge domain, so a  guide will give you a better chance of finding the goods.  Snowcrazy (Chris), who posts here occasionally and at snowheads.com,  lives down the road in Bourg St Maurice and does some guiding- mainly at Paradiski, but also at 3 Vallees.  I have had some great days with him!

Any instructor will be able to take you off piste although mixing up a board/ski will mean you don't get a lot out of the lesson beyond the guiding.  Of course guides are also available and should be considered if you want some more serious off piste or touring but from the sound of the question you want someone to show you safely some of the more easily accessible stuff.  Of course you'll need full avy kit each or need to rent it.

Claude is a good guy who operates in the area
