No ability to edit profile, insert pictures.

I can't edit my community profile. When I click on either profile edit boxes, nothing happens.

I don't get any options when I post in threads - no boxes appear above the text box such as italics, picture insertion, etc. Just a plain grey outline around the text box. When I use a quote from another user, it shows up as code rather than plain text & pictures.

Have you tried another browser just for test purposes?

Sound's like Javascript is failing to load properly. There are several residual bugs from the Editor upgrade earlier this month Huddler is working through. Try clearing your cache and restarting IE and let me know what happens.

SSSSSShhhhh . . . I'm at work.

I'm Commpoooter semi-literate - what cache is this we speak of?

Spike, would love to help, but currently on my tablet and haven't used IE in years, so can't remember the steps off the top of my head. Usually somewhere in Options there's a place to do that.

But I think if it's a Java problem, it's going to impact some of the other browsers as well. Not sure emptying the IE cache would fix it.

This is all the Java-related Add-ons I've got running. I don't see javaScript in there, but the date seems about the same time as these troubles started up. I cleared all temp internet files, but the problem is still there.

Ok so cache cleared, but still having problems then. Do the buttons not show up sometimes, or all the time?

Buttons are gone all the time. It must be the settings on this computer because I have full access at home. I've added epicski to trusted sites and dropped security to medium from medium-high. I've gone into custom settings, where all the Java-related stuff was already enabled.

I remember Cirqerider mentioning something about his corporate network having certain Java functionality disabled for the network. It sounds like your company may have javascript disabled as well. If you could try it on another browser though it would be helpful to confirm.

Yeah, that could well be the case. I'll see what the IT folks here have to say about it. Thanks for the help.

I started IE, and noticed it took a bit for that menu strip of icons to display in the Reply screen.  Noticeable lag.

Cache clearing.

Tools (upper right)

Internet Options

General tab

Delete...you get a new screen, below.  I'd start with what shows as checked, but possibly UNCHECKING the top box if the first time you try it it doesn't fix the issue.  Exit IE, then re-enter and try again.

Ah, the classic java/javascript confusion debacle. (They have nothing to do with each other.) Suspect the site has no java dependency.

All this stuff works fine at home.:drool  I've had Java-related issues with other programs lately at work.

The IT folks left early on Friday afternoon.  Go figure.....

Spike, all the blame goes to the genius who gave two entirely different things nearly the same name.

Ah, no luck fixing this so far. I guess it'll be plain vanilla from this computer.

I can help you set up whatever you want in your profile, just let me know.  I checked your permissions and the problem is not on this end.  Try using a different browser such as Chrome and see if you still get the same result.  I notice you were using an outdated browser and recently upgraded to Explorer 9, and this may be affecting your experience.  Another thing to try is to clear your browser cookies and then log into the site.  Use Tools/ Internet Options/ Delete and select cookies.

If this web site looks different on your home computer, than your work computer, it is because your IT department blocks some of the functions. Otherwise, you can set your profile from any computer and that change is durable across all your desktop/laptop platforms.  The mobile site is not affected by your user profile settings.

Updated from IE8 to IE9 today on the work computer (the problem one).  I've got editing capability now.

So, work is too timid to let you jump over the intervening releases all the way to 11?

Our corporate IT is stone age.  They'd still be on MS XP if they could.  I disguised the request by saying I couldn't get the medical insurance page to work right.  It still doesn't work right, but now I have IE9 and Chrome.  All in one day - woo hoo!
