Planning first Jackson Hole visit!

Hello fellow skiers!
A group of buddies and myself are planning a trip to ski Jackson hole for an extended weekend. Looking at Feb. '14 I was looking for advice on where to stay and where to rent gear.
We are a group of recent graduates all looking to cut costs where we can! I figure not much of an option as far as flights and lift tickets go. BUT I know we could save money on where we stay and where we rent gear.
Last year we did Breckinridge Colorado and saved a lot by staying at a La Quinta about 20 minutes down the road. Hopefully this example helps explain what kind of suggestions I'm looking for. We are there to ski so getting up a little early and having to drive a little is totally cool.
I figure gear rentals will run pretty close too but worth asking. Any help is appreciated!

There may be some very helpful information to you here, in our Unofficial Guide to Jackson Hole

Plenty of motels including some chains in Jackson town and ski season is low season assuming you avoid holiday weekends. Park and ride at the Wilson lot for maximum flexibility.  Only deals on tix I found were tied to not all that cheap accomodation.

We usually fly to SLC  and drive to Jackson (if you are up to this!)  Overall it is cheaper more  flexibility and pretty much the same time with overlays flights. Also it is less risky on the delays  and lost equipment.

You can stay in Jackson  and take a free (depending on location) bus to the mountain (15-20 min) , but   if you call central reservations they have deals for Aspens (need to rent car which you would  have if you are driving) combined with the tickets - usually decent deals.
