Colorado Gems Card got neutered this year... :(

This used to be one of my favorite deals, and now its crap (or at least much less appealing).

It used to be a $10 card that got you 1-3 free days per year, repeatable BOGO at many mountains, and tickets in the $30-40 range- Specifically Monarch offered a free ski day in April for years and years and years, and Loveland offered a $38 lift ticket every day you showed a card.

Now, it is:

$20

No free days.

SINGLE USE BOGO at each of the participating mountains.

It reinforces how glad I am that I jumped on the $199 Silverton pass for 15 days at A-bay, Loveland, Monarch (in addition to Silverton, duh). All of those mountains were ones I used Gems card deals on almost every year in the past.

I was just looking into this for the upcoming season and was really surprised to see how much different (as in: bad) this card is now.  It was just last year when it was a really good deal that made skiing a lot more accessible to people who can't afford season passes.  Now it's more like a groupon gimmick.

I wonder if one or two ski areas (LL) saw all the action from this card and they wanted to spread out the use.

And last year was worse (in the sense of free ski days) than it had been in years. It used to be common that you would get 3-4 free ski days throughout the year. I used the perennial free day at Monarch for about a decade- my birthday is April 4th, and my birthday celebration for years has been hitting Monarch with friends and passing around the free tickets to those without passes.

I'm glad I got a Silverton Pass this year to get the 15 days at Monarch, Loveland, and Abay.
