Sherpa: on-mountain intelligence app for Copper

Well this should be interesting. I had seen some signs for this but wasn't familiar; it was announced today.

I am reserving judgment until I try it, but ... uhhhh .... real-time information on secret pow stashes? I can see a lot of the app's utility, but it kinda takes the fun out of learning stuff on your own. (But I guess that's the way we are headed these days, in all aspects.) Good to know where a ski patrol might be, but stay out of my favorite spots unless you figure them out yourself. I guess I'm not being very nice.

I'm not sure I can deal with that electronic voice in my ear while skiing ... I can't even remember to turn on a gps, so it will be a miracle if I manage to get this running, but I promise I will try.

Very Interesting and kinda sad. What ever happen to the enjoyment of discovery?

Creepy...

I will NOT be doing this for Whitefish. :-D You have to read up the night before.

Well, it's a Copper-only app, so you don't have to. :-)

I am curious about how it works, or not, and even though I am not optimistic now, I think using it before trashing it is probably a good idea. #tryingnottobealuddite

I realized that. And was glad. I almost forwarded this to a friend who skis there as fair warning about the coming hordes. I know if I was a contributor to that app, I'd ski the stash until I was bored, then call it in.

haha, yeah, I'm a little curious about the "locals." Really giving away the powder stashes? What would be better is if they would yell, in real time, "Hey wankers, stop traversing Copper Bowl and ruining the top of Schaeffers!!" I mean, there could be some good things here. I doubt there will be hordes or anything, but even three skiers getting to ----- --- ----- before I do could mess it up.

On the other hand, this isn't so different from me checking Copper's twitter or fb feed on the lift to see if ropes are falling in Spaulding, or directed skiing is happening on Union ... Or if you hear that everyone is headed for Spaulding, so you decide to stay where you are to avoid crowds... Like I said, I'll reserve judgment until I know more.

I know how to use this!  "There's really great pow on Main Vein!" "Get your scratch on on Rossi's!"  "Too bad -- Black Bear and Freefall are nothing but rocks and stumps :(."  And even better "What's the point of riding a T-Bar for 200 vertical feet of tracked out snow?"

Bump

Anyone use this? Is this just a tourist app or does it actually divulge useful information?

Pretty worthless. It is amusing when they take a dig at Vail.
