CR-V spare wheel bike rack?

I am the proud new owner of a 2006 Honda CR-V, and now need to figure out how to carry bikes! I would love to hear from other CR-V owners (or those who know them) about what actually works for them. Toyota RAV4 owners are welcome to chime in as well.

This is the CR-V (same model for years 2002-2006) with the off-set spare tire. I don't have a hitch (yet?) and am too short (and with bad shoulders) to put a bike on the roof. Obviously I can fit one bike into the back if I need to, but would love to fit two bikes behind the vehicle easily.

Right now we have mountain bikes (nothing fancy), but would love to be able to accommodate road bikes as well.

I have seen pros and cons for both the Thule and Yakima versions of the spare tire rack, but would love to hear from someone who actually uses one of them.

IF I were to hurry up and shop tomorrow (Sunday), REI has 20% off of either one. If I don't decide yet, I might wait until the next sale . . . which is okay, because I sort of need to choose and buy my crossbars and get a ski rack too (another decision). . . . !

Thanks for any comments!

I really like my Yakima trailer hitch tray racks. I am not a fan of tire mount racks.

The off set tire, can make some trouble with some bikes

Thanks, Philplug - so is the reason you don't like the spare tire racks due to the potential problems with the off-set tire (and how would I know if I would be one of those people with problems)? Or do you not like them attached to the spare tire for another reason?

If I someday got a hitch with tray rack or other rack. . . isn't it unnerving to have the bikes way behind you? Which would be really way behind me, it seems, if there is extra room behind the spare tire and they are behind that. Or something like that. I imagine them wobbling as I drive. I am too used to my trunk rack on my Camry, hugging them nice and close to the car.

Ditto.  Yakima Hold-Up for me.
