I got my Park Record this morning. I was appalled by the interview- I found it arrogant and insensitive. Cumming is "praying" for a solution- His solution is to shut it down, build this ludicrous eyesore Woodward, and put how many thousands of Park City citizens out of work? On the hill, in shops, in restaurants & hotels? And what of the property owners? How many hundreds of ski in - out condos and houses instantly lose half their value or more? What of Old Town and Main Street, suddenly with no adjacent resort ? The new Silver Star community with it's lift to nowhere? Town lift? The Sweeney's Treasure Mountain project? (who cares, but that's now an island...)
I expect some voices will soon be heard. I noticed the comment section in the record was 100% against Cumming. There will presumably be public input to any Woodward proposal. In our town these can get very heated with citizen input vs. developers. If I was Cumming, I'd save my prayers for then. I've met Cumming and worked with his wife on civic stuff. He's likable enough. Seems smart & sane. I sided with him first out of loyalty and disbelief that anyone could be so negligent as to not renew such a sweetheart lease. But the judge has ruled.
I'm just little people, but in my experience, grownups, especially in business, admit when they've made a mistake and move on. And there's so much to get on with, Copper & Snowbird for starters. The little people of Park City, the shop owners, staffers, ski industry people, all the property owners and citizens, the mayor with his devastated tax base, they don't have those options. In spite of Cumming's statements that his loyal people are going down with him, PCMR employees are putting out their resumes...
Apologies for the rant. I'm re-upping my Deer Valley locals coupons next season and getting an Alta pass.
A friend once was fond of saying: "If one person tells you you have a tail, ignore it. If two people tell you, you should give it some thought. If three people tell you that you have a tail, you better turn around and look." I'd like to see a deal that doesn't involve cutting the baby in half.
