Can anyone weigh-in on what the usual base and edge bevel angles should be for the Head Rev Pro 85 ski in 170 cm I'm a moderate level 6 skier, 64 years old, 183 lbs, 5'9". I was told by a reputable ski shop in Vermont that it has had great success in tuning the Head Rev Pro 85 base at 1 degree and the edge at 3 degrees, but 3 degrees seems like a lot. I thought the normal tune was 1 base and 2 edge which is what I have always tuned by Blizzard Magnum IQ 76 to with success. Any advice or knowledge of the Head manufacturer's factory specs. or the preferred tune for this ski would be appreciated! Thanks!
Base and Edge Tuning for Head Rev Pro 85
Can't say for sure what the Rev 85 comes from the factory with. A lot of the Heads used to come with a 1 and 1, but that makes them feel pretty bland, IMO. And the factory tune can vary a lot. I skied a pair of Head's last season with a 1 and 3, made them hook up quickly on hard snow, but not as user friendly in softer conditions. I find for all mountain skiing that a 1 & 2 works best for me with all the Head skis I've owned over the years. And if that's what you're used to, it would be a good place to start. And if it doesn't work for you, you can always change it later.
I've owned a lot of Head skis over the years, and I've yet to find a pair that didn't work well with a 1& 2 for all mountain skiing. There's a shop near Stratton that really pushes the 1 & 3 base and edge bevels, but unless you're racing or skiing fast on hard snow, I think the 1 & 2 is more versatile for most conditions.
