Need some advise on All Mountain Skiis

Hi all… need some advise....I’m 57 years old , 5’11” and 240lbs and I took up skiing 7 years ago…I live in the east …ski about 10-12 times a season on small hills in Ontario, and Western New York …also do a few days at White Face in the Adirondack’s … I ski  155cm Salomon Scrambler 700’s in the east…(I know their short but I like them )…I manage all eastern blacks confidently and rate myself  the intermediate category…  Went to Whistler for a week last year and going again this year…. The Scramblers were no good at Whistler - too short, too thin, too much sliding when stopping… a friend lent me 165cm Dynastar Sultan 80’s and I mostly stuck to the blues with good results…. got in some blacks but, the trees were really too much for me…I’m  quite happy to cruise on the blues, do a few blacks and try the occasional glade…I really only want one set of skis and I’m thinking the Sultan 80’s or the Fischer Motive 80  would be ideal, both in east and west …any thoughts or other suggestions?  Thank you.

Welcome to EpicSki.  If I understand you correctly you're looking for one ski for both eastern and western conditions.  Right?

Paulbee, best thing you can do is find out when ski mfg reps will be at your local ski hills demoing their skis.  Hopefully, you find a date when multiple mfg reps will be demoing on same day and try skis back-to-back to determine what works best for your skiing style.  BTW, ski reps will sell those demos or you can often get pretty good deals on last years version of the ski you like (often no difference except cosmetics of topsheet).

Strongly suggest you go much longer, you should probably be on a 178 or longer ski (need to ski an even longer length if it has rocker). And I would not consider anything narrower than the 80s but you probably should end up in the 88 to 98 range given the terrain you prefer.

Thanks MWshredder.....sorry for the tardy reply but I was away........that's good advise......I have an opportunity to land the  Dynastar Outland 80 XT Fluid at a very good price so I'll take a chance on it....it's rated as advanced when I'm intermediate so I should I'll grow into it ....it will also do nicely when skiing both in the east and the west....thanks again for your comments
