Im planning our 2nd family trip, and the first where want to get the girl on skis. She will be almost 4 next March.
We went to SB last year, and she stayed in daycare (she loved it) while the wife and i skied. This year we want to get her into ski school.
What i need is a combo of convenience and affordability, pretty mutually exclusive in the ski vacation world. I also need two bedrooms which jacks the cost up a good bit.
We loved steamboat. pretty convenient, and we got snow every day last march, which was a first for me. My wife was impressed with all the kids programs she saw, although she really hasnt had much experience at all with ski resorts until last year.
SB offers a return guest early booking promotion which is pretty good. I also really like the SB booking system, in that you can basically book almost every single aspect of the trip and see how much it would be...so ive done that, and even with the early discount, its going to be extremely expensive (for me), especially when adding in daily ski school for the kid. Its a combo of 1 hr on snow and daycare the rest of the day and comes in at $287 a day!!
From what i can tell, and from talking to an agent at WP, their 3 yr old ski program, keeps the kids on the snow as long as they want to be, with lunch breaks. If they dont want to ski, they go to daycare. Thats $169 a day...huge difference over 5 days. Wp also has a stay 2 nights, get one free in a 2 room unit near the cabriolet.
can do direct flights to Denver. Rental cars are usually cheap out of Denver. Ive been to WP once and know there isnt much there, but we dont care about that. Ive yet to price it all out, but will soon...
a lot more to the story, but as for a question, does anyone have any thoughts? Am i on the right track? Anything im missing some place?
Id like to go somewhere different, but i thought WP was pretty cool in the one day i had there, and I just cant imagine finding a cheaper easier combo. I was going to do WP last year actually, but airfare to SB went on sale, and it won out...plus we werent factoring in lessons for the daughter.
