I maintain the deal is crap. Charging $399 @ 29 years old, yet $1400 365 days later shows how disinvested ski areas are I cultivating a following.

Here's my 2 cents.  People in college or up to 29 tend to still run in packs, and bring friends.  So even if they get less money from that one "millenial" pass you saw, that person is more likely to pull in equal amount of business with their entourage.

When you reach 30 and up, all those very special TV episodes about cliques and peer pressure and groupthink that you've had since elementary school finally take effect; and one finally becomes comfortable doing things just by yourself.

The resorts won't lose that much money by discounting those passes.  College/20-29ers are also less likely to have many ski trips, as they'll check to see what the whole group wants to do; and will more rarely do the same activity many times.  Then the hassle of organizing the trip will be an obstacle as everyone replies "maybe" until the more popular people in the group decide to go, and the organizer gets so frazzled that someone might not be having a good time, or can't come, they only organize it once.

A passholder who grew up skiing, will also have fear of missing out (FOMO) of the other activities that weekend that their non-passholder friends are doing, and so will go less during these years, even if they had a pass.
