What can I expect on my new Mantras?

About me: 245lbs, ex-rugby player, 6'3''. 37 years old. Strong intermediate skiier. Ski mostly in Norway, 50% piste, and 50% mixed (off-piste, some trees, etc). I usually get in around 30-50 days a season. For deeper (alps) days, I have the Shiros.

I have been on Head iPeak 78, 177cms for the past 5 years, and got the Mantra's (190cms), with bindings at a steal (from memory they were $200 brand new with bindings :-) ).

Main reason for getting the Mantras (apart from the crazy price), was that I want to bring my skiing up to the next level, and the Heads are now pretty trashed, and I feel like I am overpowering them at speed. I usually take specific lessons when I can.

From reading here, there doesn't seem to be much love for Mantras. But, those at my size seem to love them.

Should I expect a dramatic difference on the Mantra's? From flexing them, they are much stiffer than my old boards.

Or am I just over thinking things whilst waiting for the white stuff to start to fall?

Thanks

Oh yes! Your previous ski would have been to short and to soft for your weight. It will be a learning curve!
But a fun one. You have the right stick now.

Expect great edge hold and maneuverability despite it's stiffness. Expect a ski you can trust, that will be predictable. Expect to be a Volkl fan for life.

What can you expect? Speed, control and stability.

I've never owned a pair of volkls and probably never will ( Rossi man ) but being a gear geek , I have nothing but respect for the mantra skier, lot's of good skiers on them at mammoth. When a ski has been around that long and gets so many people talking about it can't be because it sucks! I bet you will go really fast on them and bash thru anything in your way!!

Yep your going to enjoy that ski. after you get comfortable on them, have the tune changed to 1 and 3. Make sure the shop or you do not de-tune them. If your boots fit great, you should be able to think turn and it will happen.
