Sportscasters

Jack Buck

Howard Cosell

Keith Jackson

John Madden

Vin Scully Is a mortal lock here. I would listen to Vin call anything over anyone. Al Michaels should be here as well. Jack Buck and Keith Jackson are solid though.

I'd still take Costas over Madden if we are talking sports in general. Madden was one dimensional, he could only do football. I remember watching an interview with Costas one time and the interviewer was spot on in saying that Bob can talk like most people wish they could write.

No I was saying take out Madden and Cosell, and put in Vin and Al. I just did it poorly.  Costas is much better as a studio host than a guy who calls games. Same for Jim Mackay.  And play by play is different than analyst.

Where would put  Marris in this mix?  Would a Mickey Mantle have been memorable without a Rodger Marris?

Cosell must be on the list.  Beyond Monday Night Football, remember all the heavyweight title fights.  The Thrilla in Manilla, the Rumble in the Jungle and "Down goes Frazier, Down goes Frazier..."

In skiing seems more reasonable to examine by the time period.  How would you consider Ligity to Johnson and Durance?  Or an Allais to a Killy or a Stenmark? With team games the technology has not really changed, skiing has been re-engineered several times in the past 60 years.

Maybe the same is true of announcers?

LOL@ nobody mentioning Bonds or McGuire.  I've kind of found some sympathy for them because.. A) they are just the ones that got caught.  and B) the pitchers were/are also juicing heavily.

Oakland A's

Billy Martin

Jose Canseco * see above

Catfish Hunter

Vita Blue

Hmmmmm. No Ricky Henderson? Dennis Eckersley? Couple of H of F'ers that might be better examples than Monsieur Dope.

Though they don't exist any more, they're still there in my heart.

The Seattle SuperSonics:

Gary Payton

Fred Brown

Lenny Wilkins

Jack Sikma

And that leaves out a LOT of deserving others, like Spencer Heywood and Shawn Kemp.

Atlanta Braves

Hank Aaron

John Smoltz

Tom Glavine

Jackie Robinson Chipper Jones

Orioles;

Cal Ripken

Eddie Murphy

Nah, I think Richard Pryor or George Carlin are better than Eddie Murphy.

Scully. By far the best.

Michaels. Greatest call in the greatest game. But very, very smooth and knowledgeable over-all. Underrated.

Madden/Summerall. The greatest team ever.

Jack Buck, Jon Miller, Mel Allen were/are classics also. I've got a baseball bias, but IMHO it takes more talent to do baseball than other sports.

Keith Jackson >> Blowsell. Whoa, doggie.

Bob Costas is the too-eager-to-please-obnoxious little kid on the block.
