Powder skis/western US skis for Eastern skier

Thread Starter
Hello! I'm from Eastern Canada and I recently moved to Utah to study here for a year. Back home I mainly skied on groomers on Rossi Attraxion 11 (154cm) and did master racing on junior Atomic D2 SL (151 cm) and D2 GS (179cm). I weigh about 115 lbs and measure 5'1'' (female. I am looking for skis that will handle Utah's ski conditions better. Either some wider/lighter all mountain skis or powder skis. But I've never skied on powder skis before (and while I am an advanced skier, I am not very good at handling powder but I'm planning on taking lessons in Utah this winter). Any suggestions on what skis I should look at and it what length? Thanks!

They should be able to help you on the fatter portion of your quiver.

There are actually a lot of great all mountain skis out there.  However, if you are looking for a deal, here's one I wish I could justify grabbing.

the nemesis is an awesome all mountain ski that will serve you well in powder, soft snow, and still let you enjoy the last groomer run back home.

Other skis that jump out at me:

Volkl Aura or Kenja

Blizzard Samba or Black Pearls

Rossi Temptation 88

If you love your current Rossis, it might be best to stick to Rossi.  Then again ... you can't beat that deal above.  If my hubby hadn't put his foot down, I'm sure that I would have added yet another ski to my quiver ... which would be silly since I have the Volkl Auras which already fill that particular slot!

As for length ... do the Rossi's you are currently skiing have rockered or early rise tips?  If they do, stay with the same length.  If not, go up a size.  Rocker or early rise tips reduce the amount of edge contacting the snow so it's best to go up a length.

I'm 5'2" and in my carver (no early rise or rocker) I ski a 156.  In my Auras (early rise tip) I ski a 163.

I hope this helps.
