As a chronic daily migraine sufferer treated at the UNC Headache Clinic and Duke Neurology Pain Clinic for over a dozen years now I've been on Topomax and just about every other medication mentioned in this thread as things they have tried for prevention. I was taking a pretty high dose ot Topomax but it just wasn't effective for my situation. I think I gained some weight on it too. I don't recall any detox issues, but I do remember being instructed to step down off of it gradually.
I'd say that Lyrica was probably the worst in terms of mental/emotional adverse effects. It made little things really seem like big things, found myself feeling ridiculously irritated/angry over things that shouldn't make a person upset. Quickly recognized this, mentioned it to the doc, and then quit when they confirmed that is a documented side effect. It wasn't working that well anyway.
