Help picking a pair of skis [Europe]

Hi,

I am new to these forums, but looking for reviews on the Internet I found quite a few results pointing to this website, so I figured maybe I could get some recommendations.

I actually have been procrastinating all week long, but tomorrow morning (14-15 hours from now) would be my last opportunity to buy a pair of skis at discount prices (since it's summer, and when winter season starts, prices will go back up like crazy).

I currently have the Atomic Race SL and the Atomic Nomad Blackeye. I bought the Nomad looking for an all mountain ski, since the Race SL don't seem like the best choice to go off piste, but I am not too happy with them, so I am thinking about getting just one pair of skis. I have never changed skis in the middle of the day, and where I ski depends on the snow and who I ski with.

If there's enough snow I prefer to go off piste, but I also enjoy some carving on the marked slopes. I probably should mention that I ski in Europe (Austria and France).

As for the level, I think I am a pretty good skier. I am a bit aggressive, I enjoy going off piste, but haven't (yet) done heavy off piste stuff (like going down on an entire face of a mountain where there are no marked slopes).

Now this shop has some Kastle's (82, 83, 88 and 98), all at 600 euros (including bindings), which seems a pretty good price.

There's another shop that has a Nordica Fire Arrow at 300 euros, but I don't remember the exact model.

From what I read so far, I lean towards the 88, but I would like a 2nd (and 3rd, and 4th) opinion.

Thanks.

1.87 and 100 kg (6'2 and about 220 in "american" :) )

It seemed that they were not as stable as the Race SL's, I could feel more vibrations on the slopes. Off piste they didn't seem wide enough, which was mostly a problem when the snow was a bit old and had a hard crust on the surface. They would not float, instead I would "sink" and I would feel all the traces made by other people before. All in all a very bumpy ride that was quite an unpleasant experience. And even in fresh snow I would sometimes sink too deep because they were not wide enough.

You are a big boy. I am not a fan of the MX88 in the 188 but if they have either the FX94 186 or BMX98 in a 188, they are some good options for you. The FireArrow series does not have anything wide enough for you since you didn't like the Blackeye off piste because of it's width.
