Supporters Are Now "Passholders" at EpicSki!

Thread Starter

We're phasing out the paid Supporter membership as of today and replacing it with a new membership class that we are calling "Passholder." All the same benefits will remain -- access to the private forums, special deals, and privileges such as the ability to turn off ads -- but the way into this group will be different. All current Supporters automatically will be in the Passholder group and will be sporting a new Passholder badge.

While we will be delaying this process a few months to honor the paid subscriptions of current Supporters, when implemented, Passholder membership will be awarded automatically when one's feedback score reaches 50 points in recognition of the Community's thumbs up on the content that person has contributed.

With that in mind, we have tweaked the Feedback system a bit to more accurately reflect the Community's values in the iconography and to tighten up the criteria. Please stay tuned for more on the Feedback tweaks.

In closing, we wish to extend our sincere gratitude to all current and past Supporters of the site. Your loyalty and support will endow the new Passholder Program with the core values that built EpicSki into the community it is today.

Politics and Hot Topics will be a whole lot more lively when veteran, but non supporter posters that have had their threads moved there suddenly gain access to those threads again!popcorn.gif

This takes effect - when?   Sept/Oct timeframe?

The announced change is current, the change about using rep to expand access is still TBD.

It would seem that for those who spend infinitely more time reading here, rather than posting, they will lose some priveledges that were previously enjoyed by simply 'paying up.'

As a lurker I am familiar with most of the regulars and have been for some time now. I enjoy the banter and have benefitted directly from other members knowledge. Not the least of which is my expanded vocabulary. Where else would I have learned the meanings of Gaper and Jong?

Am I now expected to post more often simply to earn the requisite number of endorsements?

If I missed something, please educate me.

Thanks and think snow!

Maybe this is a way for those with cred to "cash in", sort of like carbon credit points.... How much should I demand per credit point? It would help pay for a new pair of boots.

;-) jk.

Dude, make a couple of vegetable comments and you'll get there in no time.

I think the idea is for you to "pay up" via participation in the forum, ie, it's not a one-way street. Luckily, Lorenzzo is right, vegetables are good, but sardines are even better.

See how that works, Trapps?  Mention veggies, and you get one!

Probably don't have to post that often if you are also clicking on Thumbs Up when you read a good post.  Ski season hasn't quite started yet.  That gives you a little time to read and post a few other good questions. Only have to make the grade once, instead of paying every year.  :)

Marznc, I was really looking forward to that income stream.

Sib, as the most generous provider of cred points Thumbs Up you should be getting something for them!

I'm sure there are ways to work something out. ;)

I'll offer them for 10% off whatever @sibhusky is selling them for.

You don't have to post a lot.  You just have to post good content that inspires a Thumbs Up

Just today, because you posted and brought attention to your plight, members have amped up your feedback and have gone back to old posts of yours to give you Thumbs Up

If you were a Supporter prior to the change, you would have already been grandfathered into the Lounge.

In case anyone is wondering, when Trapps wrote Post #6, he wasn't a Passholder.  However he's written good posts in the past for which he has gotten credit today.

I am totally 100% with Trapps. "They also serve who only stand and wait." The world needs more listeners and fewer talkers. Those, typically, are precisely the folks who say something worth listening to when finally they do talk.

Be that as it may, this is a forum for exchanging ideas. If everyone's listening, there are no ideas. Contributions to the discussion should earn some kind of distinction... Although not being allowed in the lounge doesn't seem like you're missing anything. It's not like being locked out of trip reports or something, more like being locked out of a food fight.

I rather enjoyed being an athletic supporter.

Come on, sibhusky. When's the last time you were in a group of people where everyone was listening and no one was talking? How often in human history has that ever been a problem?

Actually, 30 years ago. Encounter group. Everyone stared at each other, unwilling to go first. Week after week. The leader was pretty frustrated. The participants could have taught some things to witnesses in trials.

I get the participation and exchange of ideas angle, both obviously critical to any productive group. Humorous posts aside, I'm also a fan of adding content where I have something meaningful to add. "Me too" replies, while adding quantity or support to a viewpoint, are often just that, reiterating that which has already been offered.

I believe there is value to the offerings of those who comment on any issue at any time, and the men( or women) of few words and all who fall in between.

Thanks for the feedback and discussion. It is, like most things here, appreciated.

We'll I'm mad as hell and i'm not going to take it anymore.

This thread reminds me of a fascinating reading recently of Michael J Sandel's "What Money Can't Buy: the Moral Limits of the Markets" and its broader societal implications. Find book reviews on Amazon or Goodreads. Worthy book!
