I am trying to remount a pair of 180cm GS skis (equipped with a Vist plate). The binding I was using is defective, so I am remounting with a Tyrolia FF+ instead. Here is the dilemma-since the plate has already been drilled, my new holes will overlap. My options are: 1) mount bindings 3mm behind center or 2) mount bindings 10mm ahead of center. FWIW, I am a lightweight guy (155lbs) at 5 foot 9, with fairly long legs.
I'd suggest the 10mm forward location. The ski is assumedly longish, very stable and has an aggressively stabilizing plate on it. You are light. Moving yourself back would just make the ski even more stable and more difficult to initiate a turn with. Moving yourself forward will make it easier to initiate turns and allow you the ability to bring the ski through the turn more quickly if you choose.
Of course you sould go find a shop with a balancing machine and find out which position helps you get most balanced on the skis. Lastly, you could get a new binding that will fit in the holes you already have - warranty?
