Q: Mounting Comp EPS 16s on SL Piston Plates 16/14mm

I feel the two rear heel screws are just eating up the thread inside the SL Piston plates. I'm not even tightening them that hard. I'm using a torque screw set at 3NM. I had no problem mounting the exact same bindings on thinner GS Piston plates.

Do I need longer screws? The only difference here is the thickness of the plastic top layer of the plate and thus the rear heel screws are not just long enough to reach the metal underneath the plastic top. All other six screws tighten properly at 3-4NM.

Thanks in advance.

Do the holes feel stripped? I haven't had this problem, though I tighten by feel...

The screws should be longer than the ones on the GS plates, FWIW (not sure of the length, I'd have to pull 'em out to measure). They can be long enough so that they're almost as long as the heel piece/plate combo is thick.

Yes, I can feel and see holes being stripped out.  I'm not even tightening them very hard.

Are the screws supposed to go through the metal sheet underneath the plastic plate top?  If that's true, the stock screws that came with the bindings are not long enough for the extra thickness of the SL plates.

Marker. Frustrating.

Just pulled a rear heel piece screw out of my 14mm plates and measured it--it's 26mm's long, so yes it goes through the metal. How long are your screws, anyway?

Ok...so mine's 22mm's without the screw head. That's what came with the plates, not sure why they would be longer than yours except for possible human errorth_dunno-1[1].gif.  Looks like you could go longer like mine, that might help. I've also heard of people using an epoxy to fill the hole--then they re-drill (using a slightly smaller bit than normal) and re-screw. I hear this works.

Ok so the screws are of the same size. The mounting screws came with the bindings rather. I did use fast curing Harman red epoxy, but even with that, I couldn't fasten it past 1 NM or less, which is not much of torque at all. I wonder if the SL Piston plates are defective.  Anyhow, I've contacted both retailers--skis and bindings. I expect to get the answer by tomorrow.

Thanks!

The store has responded and shipped longer screws. They are coming in the mail. I keep my fingers crossed...
