I'm going backpacking on an over-nighter this weekend and then it's back to work for a week. I'll follow that drudgery up with an 11 day, cross country backpacking trip in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness...I'm STOKED, to say the least!!!

In the meantime, I was hoping to earn enough feedback points to win a new pair of ski pants long enough to cover my ski boot tops...smile.gif I'm not holding my breath on that one though...

It's possible that if I (and a very few others) hadn't gotten all upset at the beginning and posted about it, then you're right, the thread would have just been full of jokey comments and might have run out of fuel by now.  But it's summer, and there's no snow to play in.

What's an addict to do?

People jumping to conclusions without having all the information? Uh, yeah.

So..has everyone said their piece here so we can close the thread and move on?

Oh, mannonono2.gif    What a light weight!   Blocking someone on Epicski?  popcorn.gif   That is like killing a puppy.  Shame on you.   You must not get out much in the cyber world.duck.gif

I think across all the forums I'm on, there are four.  They are all people that I realize are just winding me up and haven't said anything worth paying attention to for weeks.  It's not worth it, so I try and ignore them.  Of course, that's only half a solution as people are inevitably quoting them.

But doesn't locking the thread prevent you from giving a thumbs up? Is that a good idea? Maybe we should discuss a while. rolleyes.gif

Actually, it does not.  You can still give icon14.gif to posts in a locked threadwink.gif

Actually those of us that can see deleted posts can actually thumb the deleted posts up for whatever reason.

Am I the only person who clicked on your screen shot and tried to unlock the thread?

Of course everyone giving and receiving it has way more than is needed to meet the requirement of why the changes were made.

We really should (I'm as guilty as anyone) leave this thread and get back to talking about skiing.

Just for kicks I went and gave Bob Barnes a icon14.gif in the locked Crudology thread this morning to prove it can be done.  Also did it because he's "da man"!

Say rather "You repainted a feature you've been pushing for since forever in shinier 'magic solution to this problem too' colours", and I'd agree with ya.   biggrin.gif

I've wanted both aging and saging  since, oh,  about 6 months after  97% became a meme.

Aging and saging? As you age, you become more sage? What?

How about aging and sagging?  That fits me much betterredface.gif

I'm sure you will immediately notice some interesting quirks hypothetically applicable to Epic:

- controversial threads can be permanently not bumped to the top (even if someone comes in and revives the thread 10 years later)

- it is a low-grade alternative to per-thread moderator intervention: the public gets to have its say on threads even before any moderator acts.

- controversial threads can become soft moderator opt-in for further posts (as opposed to hard moderator opt-out which is what locking is, or as opposed to complete sequestration of the thread), by having moderators actively /remove/ saging tags if they choose to.

I've been on boards that need this, but either I've been busy skiing during times this is needed here or it's just not that kind of place. I'd like to see a notification to people that they are posting to a dead thread when someone awakens something that's over a year old. Doesn't need to stop them, just say, Are you sure?

Facebook, by pure chance,  has several elements of  the idea in it.

IMO, the easiest way to explain how saging of threads  works is to tell folks a saged thread is like that post that 'friend' made on your FB wall at least a year ago - unfindable and invisible unless there's a new comment AND you're already subscribed.

Well, Facebook drives me nuts.  I have everyone on lists, then look at each list, trying to see everything.  Facebook clearly has no idea of what interests me.  Why should some computer be deciding what I see and what I don't?

Good we're on the same page. *fnar*

Now imagine a  "Facebook" where you see everything, for as long as you want to - except for the stuff that your friends (not some computer)  have collectively decided is cr@p - that stuff never even shows up in your feed.

Like my 40000 buddies on Epic? Not sure that's any different. Those endless What are you drinking, etc. threads would always be at the top, etc. I'd rather determine my own interests. During ski season, I only look at stuff related to three searches I set up and bookmarked. During summer, I glance at any new thread using the new posts feed. Really don't want someone thinning things out for me.

No more than they currently are, since regular bumping (aging) is already implemented on every forum in the world.     Nothing moves *up* faster in my scheme - I just want to make it possible for stuff to move *down*.

For example: If my suggestion had already been implemented, I'm sure this thread would have gotten a few icon13.gif by now.      Which would stop someone new on the main forum screen from seeing it.    But you and I could chatter in here and post new posts and the only people noticing would be the other folks who have subscribed to the thread.    If a mod happened to think there was valuable stuff in the thread that should be seen by new eyes, the mod might remove some of the icon13.gifs.
