I could agree that it is poor taste that DMR is posting pics to draw tourism dollars, although I certainly have full on summer feeds from both Winter Park and Copper that are all about the great weather as the mountains formally open for summer.
It is sad to say, but 'smoke' or 'no smoke' is a huge part of the local weather forecast way beyond the locality of the fire. I base local mountain biking times on the smoke forecast, and I am a couple hundred miles away.
In any event, it is really stressful to be near these things. I wonder in hindsigtht about my own reactions, and I think a lot of it is watching areas you know either burn or be in direct threat, also knowing the conditions that caused the fires are still ripe.
Anachronism, I like that new term vacuation. How true that is these days. We just bought a nice 8 man tent, and it was ready for packing along with the camping gear. Figure if we had been evac'd for awhile that we'd do some camping. Makes me wish I'd built that expedition trailer I was designing a couple years ago, maybe this is the reason to do it .
