Elan Fusion M-12 Ski length

Can Anyone give me some feedback on what legnth I should select when I purchase the Elan fusion M-12. I am 6' 3" 185 and I like to ski the whole mountain. I "demoed" length 176, but I was wondering If I could go to a 168? Thank You for any input!

I am 5 foot 9, 150, and skied the M12 Fusion last spring. I found the 176 to be a good length for all conditions (I was in up to 8 inches of crud/pow). I didn't get on the 168 to compare, but the M12 is pretty beefy. A 168 would probably be okay on groomers, but you might want some more fore-aft stability at your height if you are using it as an all-conditions ski. I was on the M8 in a 168 and it felt short for 3-D conditions (but that is a much softer ski as well). If this is going to be mainly an ice/groomer ski also check out the S12 Fusion-it is a better carver and has more of a race carver feel (vs. the cruiser feel of the M12). I personally prefer the narrower waist and different feel of the S12-it was just as good as the M12 in deeper snow as well.

Hi Birdlegs--Welcome to EpicSki!

You could ski the S12 in either length. The 176 would have more flotation off-piste, and theoretically more stability on the groomed, but the 168 has a tighter sidecut radius, and at all but the highest speeds would feel like a higher performance ski. If you're concerned whether the 168 would be "enough" ski for you, again, at all but very high speeds, or deep, soft snow, it would.

The standard model of the S12 has a beefier, more solid feel than the Fusion integrated binding model. Try them both--it's a matter of personal preference.

Good luck!

Best regards,
Bob Barnes
