Issue With Various Buttons

Just in the last couple of days, I've had problems with some of the buttons on threads. On my home laptop, the quote button just sends me into a permanent loading sign (spinning clock). When I try to submit rep points or flag a post, I get error messages like "AJAX response unable to be parsed as valid JSON object"

 

On my work PC, the flag and rep points buttons just take me to the top of the page. Quotes work, but the format of the quoted section looks weird.

 

Any ideas?

 

Oh, I've also been getting a wall of text on my posts. I have to type in stuff with < symbols and such to get spaces between lines.

Hi CV, to get started sussing this out, what's your OS and browser name and version?

I'm on Windows 7 with IE 8.

Oh, and the sponsor images at the bottom don't load. It looks like the page as a whole doesn't fully load.

I'll try downloading Firefox on my home computer to see if that helps.

Did you try Firefox? If so, did the same problems recur?

Firefox is working fine now. There must be something in Internet Explorer blocking content. Unfortunately, I can't download Firefox on my work computer, but that's not too big of a deal.

Hmm. That will help the troubleshooters figure out what's going on with IE8.

Just a bit more info: the slide show on the home page doesn't load fully. I can see the first two pictures, but the left and right arrows don't do anything. That's in addition to the sponsors section at the bottom coming up blank.

I am nearly certain that your work computer limits the use of JavaScript which is much of how this site is displayed and operates.  I have some of the same issues at work.  This isn't a solution, but you might want to experiment with the ctrl key when you want to do things like copy and paste, and spelling checks.  Many times when you experience an error in performing an action on this site, using the CTRL key will bypass the javascript that is blocking you.

+1 on big brother being the root cause. Been there.
