Dynastar Sultan 85 166 vs Fischer Watea 88 168: too similar? What of Koas?

Background:

Wanted to dig into working on certification next season. 5'8" 145lbs.

Ditching my old ebay specials (Old K2 LottaLuvs they served me well despite stupid rail binding system - heavy in the wrong places).

Currently own Dynastar Sultan 85 166 Look PX12 bindings. Like them but need to work hard as they're a bit stiff (also need to rule out that it's not lack of detuning that's making them make me work). I feel I need to be in tip top shape to drive these & cannot just casually ski 'em off the couch.

My tech director casually recommended Fischer Watea's. But gear is not his forte

Questions:

1. Are the Dynastar Sultan 85 166 & Fischer Watea 88 168 too similar? esp in terms of stiffness & weight?

2. Are there any real differences in stiffness/weight for the comparable Fisher Koa's?

Thanks in advance!

If the Dynastar 85's are overpowering you, the Watea's might be a viable option. The Fischers are lighter than the Dynastars and will have a bit bigger sweet spot due to their softer flex and early rise. I would also suggest a lighter binding than the PX you have on the Dynastars like a Fischer (Tyrolia) Peak 12/13 or Salomon Z12.

Agree with Phil.  I have Sultan 85s and Watea 94s.  The Sultans are my "hard snow" ski because they are much stiffer.  I ski the Wateas a lot more.  You might also check the factory tune on the Sultans...mine had a horrible burr running the length of one of the skis.
