That dreaded popping sound...

 Peronaeus longis or brevis, not sure which. Wasn't on snow, was chasing a rooster (don't ask). I had intended ski a couple more days, but am now done for the season.

 

Found a brace which gives good stability, lateral motion wise. Am able to walk (carefully) with no discomfort.

 

Any reason to think it won't heal properly? Put another way, should I see a doctor anyways?

When I don't know what is going on, I go ask someone that does.

"That dreaded popping sound" could mean a detached or separated tendon.  It won't heal itself if that's the case.  You need to know which it is, soon.  Go.
