Well, yeah. Other steep terrain is closed, as well (eg, West Zuma). Supposed to be very very warm this week. (Up to 85 in Denver tomorrow??? help) You probably saw all the wet slides around Loveland Pass yesterday. Every day more and more is going.
In spring, the same conditions (warm and steep) will be a problem on East Wall too. I doubt it will be open much longer ... wasn't it closed today?
I'd be surprised if the hike to North Pole or any of the East Wall stays open. The patroller who dropped the rope when it reopened on Friday said it would probably just be a matter of days until it was closed for the season. He also thought Pali would be open at least a week longer. I can't imagine them keeping the East Wall open when Pali is closed. They would need some reason to believe that exposure is a whole lot more stable than Pali given it's even steeper.
Note: the Pali lift is still running, it's the Pali run and runs under the lift that are closed. You can still get to some great runs like 13 cornices, International, and Slalom Slope off the Pali lift.
The Mother's Day crew got the best spring skiing A-basin has served up in as long as I can remember, congrats!
Yes, I should have specified that, thanks. (Should have said I had a lot of quality time under my favorite lift, I guess...)
Pali *is* done for the season. They didnt open it yesterday at all. Guess our topless run down Pali was enough to close out the season on it :)

It's pretty rough out there but still some good turns to be had. Get out early and make the most of the groomed stuff, then move into the trees and look for some soft bumps. There is only about a 3 hour window before it all turns to super glue. The north and west facing stuff, especially in the trees, are holding up better but the end is definitely within sight.
I can't believe that was just a week ago and the Pali chair is now closed. I'm in serious denial and withdrawal. I was really hoping for another day on Pali. Cold turkey winter to summer is brutal.
I've been quietly chuckling to myself as others bitch about spring while we've been skiing pow in CO for the last six week. I'm kinda sorry about that now.
Is A-basin video forthcoming? Maybe that would help with withdrawal symptoms... or would it make it worse?
Great video and great line! Thanks MR. It's just crazy that was just a week ago.
I'm glad so many were able to get out here and enjoy it! The lesson for me is to get more while the getting is good. I should have figured out how to get another day or two in the last couple weeks, but I'm happy for the days I got and for meeting so many nice folks from epic!
