Hello everyone, I just fell in love with and purchased these skis after demoing them for 2 days against some other very top notch skis! But nothing compares to these, they are amazing.
The tech at Footloose in Mammoth suggested the Head free flex pro 14 (partially i suspect because they were on sale and the only binding with 12 or14 din setting that they had left that had a narrow enough brake for the 70mm waist on this ski). After reading some reviews online and threads on this forum the consensus seems to be to go with Vist plate and binding set up. ( although i have read in places that they purchased the patent from Nordica and are not very reliable as well- typical contradictions you encounter reading everyone's opinion out there)
What are your thoughts on the Head binding? Is a plate really necessary on this ski? The tech and others seem to think that the boot center marking is dead on. As i understand it, moving it forward will initiate turning slightly more(which i dont think this ski needs) and that the binding sitting higher on the plate also helps this but reduces stability. Also with the power plate from Head will this be more or less flexible than mounting without a plate at all? I understand that their system is lighter and allows for more flexibility than a bonafide raceplate but i am not just skiing high speed gs turns on groomers but also will be using this skis in the bumps etc. I am trying to not make this ski too heavy and keep it as flexible as possible so it is a little more versatile.
I am currently ready to buy the the Look Pivot 14 chrome based on what i have read about the advantages of its "turntable" release system. Based on my research there does not seem to be alot of people talking about putting this binding on the Stockli Laser. I am missing something? I really am leaning towards this binding.
About me: I am 35, 5'8" 145 lbs, an aggressive high-speed skier, usually have my bindings set on 8 or 9. I ski almost only at Mammoth. I have Lange rx120 boots if that matters. (i suppose everything matters when it comes to performance right?)
Any help would be much appreciated. I simply love this ski and want to do the best for my set up.
thank you everyone and ski on!!
