Val d'Anniviers, April 2013

A couple of weeks ago, we visited friends who live in Grimentz, in the French-speaking part of Switzerland. (They run a property management and rental company there: http://www.frozenaction.ch/ .)
The Val d'Anniviers is a relatively unknown region, with four separate ski areas: Grimentz, Zinal, St Luc / Chandolin and Vercorin; we made it to the first three on that list. (Grimentz and Zinal are due to be linked next season via a new tram/cablecar.)
To generalize: Zinal has the consistently steepest pistes; Grimentz has rolling runs with a great variety of terrain; St Luc / Chandolin tends to have a higher proportion of flatter, "cruisey" runs.

All the resorts have excellent off-piste areas, which usually see relatively little traffic.

St Luc / Chandolin:

I bought in Grimentz after 40 years wandering from resort to resort unsure whether to buy. In my view Grimentz makes an ideal destination for mixed ability groups with lift accessible off piste plus family friendly bowls which lead back to the hub of the main lifts.

The resorts are also relatively undiscovered and many locals would rather that not much was written about them. I think the resorts can comfortably take additional visitors without becoming crowded and therefore break the "vow of silence" and urge epicski members to give the Valley a go.

Bumping one of Martin's threads is always a good idea.

Hi Martin, we met briefly while you were in Grimentz.

We just finished renovating a lovely 4/5 bedroom chalet in the center of Grimentz, and as it is new still has availability for this winter!! If anyone is interested please look up www.chaletgrimentz.com

The new cable car is looking impressive!
