"you don't need AWD but it is helpful. Otherwise you'll have to chain up on the heavy snow days"
" Warning! Warning! Warning Will Robinson! No need for chains. Good Michelin Xi3s. No chains needed."
Just a public service message, but Eagles, if you don't have AWD with SNOWTIRES, and you're pulled over by the WA state police on any of the passes in the winter, you can be ticketed for not having chains. If you're on a pass and try to sneak over when they're required for 2 WD vehicles, you'll be fined and turned around. There's really fewer more miserable things than putting chains on in the dark next to a slushy wet highway. That applies on 410 up to Crystal Mtn. as well. Be warned. I was actually checked on my first trip to Crystal... could have been because I had BC plates on the car at the time.
