fx smartbase technology. Any Info, is it in many skis yet

fx smartbase technology. It seems like the same technology as plastic skating rinks. I have not heard any ski companies bragging about it in their line or even them using it. Has it been smothered out by big corporate? is it still in the development stage? Does it work?

I read some posts about Roam boards using it, but not much info or reviews on it.

What is it?

It appears to be a hybrid polypropylene ski base rather than the current polyethylene technology. It claims to be harder and durable to very cold temps (which was the problem of polypropylene before) I guess. Then its got some special molecular lubricant that claims to last longer. I got most information from their website. http://www.fx-smartbase.com/index.html.

I did see a video of people playing hockey on plastic sheets that produces a lubricant under pressure, so I would think they are similar technologies. Here's a link to the synthetic ice http://globalsyntheticice.com/

Hilarious, I just saw an add for the synthetic ice on the right column of my Epicski home page.

I was told that this "Smartbase" material entered the market in 2006 and so far only a small number of snowboard manufacturers (Nitro & Rome) are using this material instead of "ptex" and no ski manufacturer yet.

Why is it used by so few manufacturers if it is any good?

Interesting. It would revive the "no wax" debate too. What a bonus for posters.

but .....where....is.....it?
