This thread I am pointing interested parties to was begun by me as an inquiry for counsel, originally, and later included our trip report.
Thread has serious input from many epic-er skiers which I thought should be very interesting to families of skiers, with old and young ones, spouses who ski and those who dont (Snowboarders are skiers as far as this discussion goes!-)).
There are comparisons of places to ski in Europe, in particular, Switzerland, France, Italy and Austria versus Utah, CO, and BC, Canada (Whistler-Blackcomb). A lot of family-specific-relevant information is listed which some may find illuminating, others amusing or a few even worth reading about.
Some cost comparisons with some detail are also outlined. In addition, it is a thread which highlights reasonable costs, NOT THE CHEAPEST, slumming-your-way as a young shredder narrative, it is about families who want to live comfortably, travel with reasonably less effort, ski well, and not spend like they are related to Roman Abramovich or for that matter, our dear old, the Donald himself of Trump fame!

I just thought families might find the thread, informative to say the least.
and if you want to just see the movie and not bother with the verbiage (which by the way, in my way is very informed, especially the material from the European locals who also know the American ski areas very, very well, i found their advice invaluable this time and before)..this is the movie:
