West coast all mountain ski help

Thread Starter

I recently got into skiing and am looking to buy my first pair of skis. I live in southern california but can travel to the north on occassion. I am 5'9'', 150 lbs. I am torn between the fischer motive 88s and rossi smash 7s.

I am looking to maybe 60% groomed, 40% powder. I am a upper intermediate skier.

Any tips?

Either of those skis will be fine for an all mountain ski, with the motive being more front side bias and the Smash's being more off piste bias.

You may want to get the Motive and then leave a spot open for a powder specific ski down the road.

Hello!

I also live in Southern California and just purchased my first skis at the beginning of this season. I have been skiing my whole life but have been renting up until now, so I kind of knew what i wanted. I am 5'7" and weight 150 lbs. Not sure if this is exactly what your looking for but I went with the Armada Norwalks. Not sure where you are located in Southern California but Armada is based out of Costa Mesa, California and their skis are made in Austria.

The Norwalks are said to be a all mountain / powder ski, and after spending this season on them i can honestly say they fit the bill. I absolutely love them! Awesome in the back country and powder but also able to carve up groomers when you want and they feel natural. Check them out they are a great ski! (If you like astronauts).

I do most of my skiing in Big Bear or Wrightwood and I'm also 5'8" 150. If you ski mostly So. Cal then you want more of a "groomer" ski. I would say stick to a 90 or less waisted ski. I've never skied the Fischer but if it's more of a groomer than maybe that is your ticket(great price by the way).

Sorry, don't know how to edit. The reason I gave these numbers is that I ski in the 172-173 length so you might want to look in similar lengths yourself. I see there's is a 176 length(Fischer) so I THINK you'd be OK on that size.
