Interesting question, Kneale. Despite what it says in the credits of the RM video, I actually did not edit that clip, and I did not write the captions, so I cannot truly speak for the current Alpine Committee. However, I think it is not unreasonable to refer to the single edge of the downhill/old outside ski as what must release to start a turn, since the other ski, on its opposing edge, is not holding anyway. It would be confusing to refer--at least in a wedge turn--to "both edges," or "both skis" releasing--wouldn't it?
Edit--I just realized that you were referring to the captions in my
Wedge Turns video (01:47), not the PSIA-Rocky Mountain clip. I do take responsibility for those captions! And I'll stand by my defense of "edge," not "edges," release in a wedge turn, although I do understand your concern.
