huh? Apparently I've been blocked from posting in a thread?    The "who should pay for out of bounds rescue".
What did I do?

It moved to Politics and Hot Topics.

You still have to pay to see this kind of stuff, even though it is a for-profit place now?

It's not just you.

Quite clearly my post, replying to a post where it was inferred that BC skiing was an unreasonable risk and only people rich enough to afford a rescue helicopter should be permitted to ski on public lands, which went something like,

" The above is complete nonsense,  backcountry and side country skiing are a reasonable risk and enjoyable activity.  There is no valid reason that I should be denied access to enjoy the freedom skiing on my own (public) land, just because I am not rich enough to afford a helicopter.",

was too much.  Apparently, having no good answer to my post, the privileged few decided that not only shouldn't I be allowed to ski on public land, I shouldn't be allowed to post in their thread 'cause I can't afford supporter status.  Well actually I could afford supporter status if I cut out beer, but that's just crazy talk.wink.gif

The rich tromping on the rights and backs of the poor again wink.gif

So they cut people out of the thread??? that's just weird, I could see if you or I were insulting people or something....     Whats even stranger is I can't even look at it????    is this what Epic ski is going to become?

I can't speak for this particular thread but I can say that EpicSki has always done a good job of giving several warnings in threads that turn political before moving to the PHT area.

I haven't read this thread, nor do I know the particulars about this but I'm going to assume that there were people who wouldn't let their politics rest and turned the thread into a flame war.

It was about insurance and who should pay for out of bounds rescue...    There were replies about insurance,,,,  I am guessing that the admin didn't agree and banned people who do not share his view?  My post really wasn't one way or the other it just explained our uninsured people cost us money, but I wasn't preaching about who should have insurance.     The strange thing is I can't even look at it?   And I think I posted a total of twice on it and was never warned (nor did I write anything that should issue a warning).   I wasn't rude, etc....   So I think its pretty shady.

Maybe ...perhaps I missed some posts, but I never saw anything warranting ... anything.

Seriously,  Thats why I put this up.     can you open it?

The post was moved to Politics and Hot Topics. The reason it may have seemed tame depends on when you looked at it. Several posts had been deleted both for personal attacks as well as bringing both religion and politics into the thread. They were deleted and there was a warning to keep away from those things otherwise it would be moved to the padded room where people can duke it out over their religion and politics to their hearts content. The warning was ignored and the thread had to be moved.

We do apologize for the error though; there was a short time span after the post was moved that it was still featured on the home page so those of you without Supporter membership were getting the access denied issue. In regards to the paying to see it comments above, EpicSki has been a for-profit corporation for the better part of a decade. (Not that its turned much of one, but it was never set up as a non-profit). The way Supporter funds are being used has not changed with the ownership change. The funds have been used for the past couple years to be sunk back into the community. IE funding stickers, T-shirts, giveaway items, etc. We still take the Supporter donations and do exactly what we were doing before--sink it back into the community. Supporter funds also help to allow for premium content, and as such we have private forums with some of that content housed there.

This post was meant to clear up the reason it was moved mainly because of our little mix up with still having it featured; however, a friendly reminder that publicly debating the decision is not permitted, so please do not take my response as an invitation to do so. If you have any questions or concerns about the decision that was made, please feel free to PM myself or one of the other moderators and we will be happy to address your concerns.

Thanks for clarifying what happened.  So where is the post now?

Epic ski has sections available to supporters only.   The politics and hot topics area could be put in the general membership area available to all, but then the Epicski supporter area would have less exclusivity to entice members into becoming supporters.  If they didn't have enticements, and all they would have left is the members desire and ability to support, and not their desire to view more interesting threads, waste less bandwidth on advertising (there is a browser addblock plug-in for regular members devil.gif), etc., etc., etc...   I guess I better say no more; I don't want this thread to end up in the supporters only area.biggrin.gif

Sorry, folks. Cirque Rider and I had tried to dissuade the thread drift but it drifted anyway. So, in line with the posting guidelines, it got moved. For reference, here is the specific guideline:

13.   Do Not Even Go Here

  1. No porn or obvious "Not Safe For Work" (NSFW) material.
  • No profanity. We don't censor your posts, you have to do that yourself. Show some respect or we'll delete it and send you an infraction warning.
  • No religious/moral philosophy/political crap.
  • This is a snowsports forum. That said, political discussions SPECIFICALLY about pending skiing legislation, regulation, and laws are allowable, and you can become a supporter and post all you want to in the Politics and Hot Topics Forum with no problem.

So we may post about laws and legislation (about skiing), so long as moral philosophy doesn't enter into it.

Here's a wikipedia definition,

"Ethics, also known as moral philosophy, is a branch of philosophy that involves systematizing, defending, and recommending concepts of right and wrong conduct."

It's pretty hard to discus laws (including pending skiing legislation) without it.

Just say'n.

Hmmm, hard to have a discussion about who should pay for out of bounds skiers needing rescue, without the topic of insurance coming up.....

Although it sounds like it was moved to the right place, it does seem odd that people who were posting in a thread in a civil manner are suddenly excluded ENTIRELY from the thread when this move occurs. From a fairness, if not from a database, perspective, you'd think they could at least continue reading - be grandfathered in, so to speak.

That's not what led to the move. It was political commentary and debate that didn't involve skiing that got it moved, in spite of warnings intended to get it on track.

No problem on the insurance portion of the discussion. I commented on that myself regarding emergency evacuation insurance that I carry just for the possibility of having to be evacuated in the event of a skiing mishap. Again, that's not where the drift was taking things that eventually got the thread moved. I hope that's enough explanation as I'm moving on from this discussion.

As an FYI for those who are interested in the original thread. CR moved it into Apr'es Ski which is available to everyone. Here's the link:
