Lets see if happy Tia  plays well with Ziggy.   Ziggy keeps an eye on the Ullr.spit.gif

Tia is a Shitzu-Yorkshire Terrier-Poodle cross, so in other words she is Yor-Shit-Poo, weighing in at 15 pounds.

What breed is Ziggy?

Is this a skier only gathering or at snowboarders welcome?

My sense is that most of the time will be spent in LCC.  Means you would be welcome at Snowbird and not at Alta.  No snowboards allowed at Alta or Deer Valley.

At the Big Sky Gathering last season, one of the locals who joined in the fun is a boarder.  No one held that against her. wink.gif

Ziggy is a chocolate lab/Jack Russel  mix

Here he is at Abasin for retro day.

Well, I'm all-in for the Utah Gathering. Garyskr and I had a phone discussion yesterday, and, we may link-up again for the week. Gary is  considering driving, and, he would meet me in the Denver airport. We would spend a few days in the Co. rockies, and, as the Mountain Collective pass is good at Aspen, we could spend two days there and then do the drive to SLC. Very similar to how we did the Gathering last year by driving up from Jackson Hole. An excellent plan, if I say so myself!

It's been many 30 years since I've been to Aspen and would love to make that happen.  I have some memories of being abused by Utah conditions 9 years ago when I resumed skiing following 15 years off.

Since you did bring up the subject of "rowdy road trips", I recall the Phil/Trish/FTM and JayT  drive from Jackson to Big Sky, last year, did set a very high bar!

While not part of the mountain collective, we will be at copper for the first two days of the gathering Testing out 2015 product.

We were thinking of Copper as well, but it would be prior to the Gathering. Maybe a day at Copper, then on to Aspen for 2 days and then drive to Utah on the first of Feb. Can you tell we are ready to ski???? It's still August and we are already sketching out the details of skiing in Feb.

Way past sketching . . . Bought the MCP in the spring.  Got my plane ticket in June when SW released their flight schedule thru early Feb.  Alta Lodge reservation in July.  Yeah . . . I'm ready.  biggrin.gif

Are you staying at the Goldminers Daughter lodge?  I'm thinking of booking a room there for the experience of staying at one of the Alta lodges.

When I stay in Alta, I always stay at the Alta Lodge.  I have a history there that goes back a long way.  I'm completely spoiled at this point, as is my daughter.  Ski in/out with gourmet meals included is great when the idea is to ski from opening until too tired for any more runs.  Really fun during snow cycles.

Seems like GD is offering some sort of discount for the Gathering but don't remember the details.

You might check out Snowpine.  The new owner has done a lot of renovations.  Used to be the cheapest place for a dorm room if you can't find a roommate.

that's when you get back to the lodge, get some rest in your bed and go back for a few more turns late in the day! biggrin.gif

You can just stop now. I will almost certainly not be affording that, much as I would like to, and am now officially putting my fingers in my ears with respect to all future dream lodging arrangement posts. la la la la la la  biggrin.gif

A bed in a dorm room is worth it mid-season for what you get.  In April, the fact that kids stay and eat for free makes a big difference for a spring break trip.  Could only afford to stay at Alta Lodge after I retired.  My history there is somewhat unrelated to skiing.

Don't rule it out, Tony.  Keep an open mind...

Before I moved to Zion, I always stayed at the Cliff because of the good deals (and the spa....), it.s literally next door, as you guys know and has a lot of rooms if a group buy is contemplated. However... I and a few thousand other skiers were stuck in the canyon (Jan 96) when the road avalanched out in the afternoon. Stayed in the Peruvian men's dorm and it was quite comfortable and good camaraderie... The communal dining room was wonderful and they opened the freezer and feed everyone... Many people had to sleep in the halls with pillows and blankets passed out by staff. We were inter lodged until 4:00 the next day, road closed. Snowbird let people out..! In any case, the Peruvian is classic old school and has a lively bar. The dorm was a great and cheap way to go.

And, they demo Kastles...

Back in action folks and I wanted to thank Mr. Binder especially for posting this great infoThumbs Up  And I want to thank the numerous others who have posted info and made suggestions.

I'll be scouring the net on a regular basis for deals on anything and everything I find as many have already done and I'll post it up.

I'm trying to get the Mahre brothers to give a free clinic for us, but since they don't know me a restraining order seems the more likely outcome:eek

"If anyone from your group would like to stay here I could offer them a 15% discount on the room rate.  A room with two double beds would be $329.00 + tax w/breakfast and dinner.  A single would be $216.00 + tax.  No book by date is necessary as we have good availability for those dates at this point (ie, as long as there are rooms available).  I believe the Mountain collective is 20% ($310.00 per night based on double occupancy with a 4 night minimum).  I'd be happy to give anybody the collective rate that has the pass and can stay for the four night minimum."

For anyone interested in this, they should contact Jonathan Scoville, who is the reservations manager at the GMD -- the number is (801) 742-2300 ‎ or he can be reached by e-mail at jonathan@skigmd.com.  He will be at the GMD on and off throughout the summer and full time beginning in the fall.  Anyone wanting this rate should mention the epicski gathering or my name.

I have been staying at the Goldminer's Daughter Lodge for years and love it -- it is clean and comfortable, but not luxurious.  The meals are excellent, and the location (approx 200 feet from the base of the Collins lift) can't be beat.  There are definitely cheaper ways to arrange lodging in the SLC area, but when you you factor in the meals, the location, not needing to worry about transport, etc., it becomes a pretty good value.  the website for the lodge is www.skigmd.com.

Is there a Snowbasin day in there somewhere. I could come out of retirement for a day to join up.

Tom, we have to ski at Snowbasin this year.

For your consideration:  Two days north of the hub (one day Snosbasin; one day Powder mountain); three days in the hub (Snowbird/Alta; ParkCity/Deer Valley; Solitude/Brighton).  Should be fun!
