I met up with cgeib and HippieFlippinNM at 8:00 this AM in the A-frame. HFNM and I stood in Pali line for a long while waiting for lift load. Just as we were in front row position a Lift Maintenance guy pulls up on a 'doo and yells 'Stop Loading'! We contemplate going to Black Mt. lift but wait and get on Pali. The patrol had ski cut a lot of slough so it took a while for that to open. HFNM and I took a run down the front. It was really nice dense but not wet snow.
We loaded Black Mt, then Lenawee were we spotted a few bears. We took a run more or less under Lenawee then met up with the Bears and skied a bit more on the front. Really nice.
Seg and a couple others eventually headed toward Zuma where the cornices and the wall were not open. Lots of ski cuts there by patrol. So we proceeded to traverse and ski the trees to the skiers left. I got on a bogus traverse which dumped me on terrain where I had to break a trail to get to Grays. That was great! I lost the Bears with my slow traverse at the top and continued to ski Bierstadt and Grays until patrol opened the cornices. I hiked, skied to an easy drop and let it rip. The snow was a bit variable in depth and consistency but still very nice and untracked.
Another couple of runs in the trees and I had to leave for work.
Riding Zuma lift at noonish just before leaving.
I wished I could have stayed and joined the après but I'll wait until Sunday for that.
