Help me pick my first pair of boots

Hi all. I am a relatively new skier having only two years under my belt and renting each time. I'm hooked and want to begin the search for my gear. Have read here and heard from many others that boots are uber important so I want to make sure I get this right!

I've been playing ice hockey my whole life so the custom fitted boot concept is appealing to me. A good friend swears by his Surefoots but have heard people either love or hate them(!). My big concern is balancing a tight fit with having a little room in the toe box. I have a wide foot and wear a size 12 usually (ice skates are 10.5) and am 6'4" 225 lbs.

What's a newbie to do?

Thanks in advance!

First read all the information at the top of the forum.  There is a ton of info there about how to proceed.  Unfortunately without seeing your foot it is impossible for any of us to help.  REad everything you can at the top and then find a good fitter.  There is a list of where we are located but there are other fitters besides us.
