Backcountry guides for the Sierras or Siskyous

Thread Starter

A friend and I are interested in getting into backcountry skiing and are wondering if there are any guided operations in the Sierras or Siskyou's that someone could recomend. We live in the Bay area so were looking for somewhere within an 8 hour drive at the most. We would like to learn/experience this from someone knowledgable so we can be somewhat educated on the dangers, gear, etc. Any help would be appreciated.

Eric DesLauriers

He lives in the Tahoe area and is based at Sugar Bowl, and does a lot of backcountry and ski mountaineering courses. I skied with him at the Epic Ski Academies, and he guided a group of us on Shasta. I cannot recommend anyone higher- he is an amazing skier (has appeared in at least a dozen Warren Miller films), mountaineer, teacher, and all around incredibly nice guy. He can also be reached through All Mountain Ski Pros and Alpine Skills International. I really cannot imagine anyone better.

They have everything (including guides and Eric Deslauriers).  You should take one of the intro to backcountry courses.

For this stuff this season is pretty much over but keep an eye on it for next season.
