Heli skiing day in the Selkirks.
When? Where? How much snow? And what made such an impression on you?
In 5 decades of skiing I've had a few unforgetable days. That includes a ton of touring and Heli skiing in the Western US, Canada and Chamonix..
Two days stick in my mind and both lift served!
One on the original Silver Mtn. Skiing the glades off Kellogg when you had to hike to get there. On 207cm Rossi SMs in tight trees on a a foot of new snow over a chalk hard base, "perfect snow" and a blue bird sky @ 20F. 30 years ago now but not one to forget.
The second was this winter in a full blown 1"+ an hour storm at ..of all places, Alpental. 2+ feet of new soft snow...not what I would really call powder. But good enough to blow over your head and fill in the tracks during the afternoon. 177cm Dynafit Hauscarans this time. Never skied with such confidence, everywhere on the mountain, as I did that day.
Where were your best days?
