Sugar Mountain, NC

I had just enough time to squeeze a morning of skiing in while in NC yesterday.  The season ends this weekend so conditions were getting a bit thin.  Sugar has 1100’ of vertical which is steep at the top and gets progressively flatter.  I skied most of my runs just skiing the top half and mid-loading the lift.  Only a few dozen people were there so lines and crowds were a non-issue.  The best run was the double black at the top.  It was decently steep and groomed.

I didn’t expect much in NC and Sugar wasn’t much but it was fun.  It reminds me most of a middle of the road Midwest ski area.  It has more vertical than the Midwest but the ski area is small and snow quality was close to 100% man made.  The steep sections of the runs were only steep for about 200 vertical feet.  There are only really 3 top to bottom runs but it was enough for half a day.

glad you went - I find I need to pick my days, so its not too icy + too many people (lifts are slow) and lack of a work trip all lines up.  It happens about once a season for me and usually come away with a "that wasnt too bad, actually kind of fun".

Looks pretty nice for March!  Certainly better than December.  Thanks for the pics.
