Perhaps there will be others doing this presenting the potential for extra rooms/beds in apartments being made available to singles participating in the gathering? This is something that I expect could be coordinated over time. However, not knowing much about the mid-winter demand for accommodations at St. Anton is it realistic to wait until approximately November to decide about reserving a self catered apartment for Feb 8th in the vicinity of Hotel Rauch Garni?

There is an appartment in the Garni, that I'm interested in sharing...and I'm a good roomie to have in terms of good eats roflmao.gif

Started a group for us.  I quickly paged through this thread to pick up interested parties to send them an invitation.

You can find the group here: http://www.epicski.com/groups/show/29/epicski-meet-up-st-anton-feb-2014

If the Rauch's apartments get booked up really early by Epic members or others, we can find you some other places and then you can e-mail the owners to get an idea how early they get booked in a normal year.

Having said that, he is likely to find something in November for that week, though it is not likely to be the best location/value combination around....

But hey-ho, that goes without saying I suppose...

Heidi, thanks for setting that group up and all the info on HQ.! is there an arrangement with the Hotel Garni for # of rooms at this point or how does that work?
Are rooms two beds? Or one big one-whatever they call it over there.
Also, by when do people need to book at the Garni are you thinking and did the owner give you some sort of deadline?

I have 4 rooms reserved, plus the apartment.  I still have some questions going back and forth to her, to they are in option, but haven't nailed down a date for how long we have the option for... getting the other questions asked first.  Like single supplement, and clarification on the lift pass, and possibly a better price...

I'm hoping for a bit of commitment from folks here, then I'll be on more solid ground to hold extra rooms in option for a bit longer...

The big one-whatever they call it, is called a dormitory wink.gif, and it isn't that.  Proper two beds en suite, with flat screen TV, nice proper rooms...

The husband seems to be an interesting bloke in terms of discussing where to ski, an on the ground host if you will...sounds perfect.  Plus my girlfriend that lives there will join for a few days, and after skiing there some 300 odd days, I expect that she knows the mountain quite well.

Should note, boot room is on the ground floor of this B&B, a major plus, and around the corner for the public swimming pool and wellness center, which is NOT like your local swimming pool where you take your kids for swim lessons folks... it is more like European Spa.. which is where I will be...instead of the bar...

I did not try the pool but it is pretty cool, half indoor and half outdoor.  Outdoor pools in the mountains are great.

I have made the group a sticky at the top of the GTG Forum and have moved or will move these threads to the GTG Forum area so they don't get lost in General Skiing Discussion.

Aren't they though?

That's why I love my timeshare at Snowbird... outdoor pool on the roof in the canyons... after a epic day skiing, I can't imagine anything else to hit on what ever senses an epic day in the snow might have missed.

If you have still not made up your minds where you plan to go for the meet. It has been an amazing season here in Les Arcs and yes, it is snowing again. At least a foot up the mountain so far today and still snowing. It will be a powder day again. If you decide to come here let me know and I can help you set up a great trip if you want. Take a look at the season thread for Les Arcs on Epic ski Eurozone to see what it has been like this season.

Snowcrszy, we have already decided on St. Anton February 8-15. But for 2015, Paradiski (and other French resorts like Méribel) will definately be in the running.

Is there any chance that you will come to St. Anton next February?

Can I suggest the 4 vallees in Switzerland. The area boasts a number of resorts, verbier being the most well known. The accessible area includes some of the most variable terrain that you can find in the alps. There is over 400 km of piste. Throughout the area you can find iconic off piste routes with great descents from mont fort. The area has hosted the world free ride championships on the bec de rosses a number of times.
If you haven't skied in Europe before the 4 vallees would offer a great introduction to the alpine terrain that is on offer in the alps.
Verbier is super expensive and popular with international clientele. My suggestion would be to go to Veysonnaz for accommodation, it's cheaper and has great access to the lift system. VIP agency offers accommodation in Veysonnaz so you could look them up online. Enjoy europe if you do get out there.

Let's set a date and we're off.

A quick look on airport transfers: from Turin, Milan or Geneva is easiest. Turin is closest, about 2 hrs by coach. Here's a quick link: http://www.europeantransfer.com/index.cfm/transfers/hotels/cervinia.html

We should really ask the Residence what they could offer.

This area looks pretty nice to me! We are planning a ski vacation in the south next year in any case. Good chance we might drive down...

yes, I am a silly american and the idea of an 8 to 9 hour drive is not such a big deal to me.

We decided on St. Anton!

If you go to groups, you can see the get together thread and what's being set up...

I'm going with the kids to Italy in Feb...biggrin.gif

Maybe someone needs to post a conclusion to this thread, with a link to the group forum and then LOCK this thread? Because clearly no one can be bothered to actually read the thread before they post.

Heidi, Cheizz,......(others helping with this)

Shall we close this thread to avoid the new posts with suggestions?

We can have a closing post with links to the primary thread, and/or separate posts from this thread to move over to this one.  What say you?

Since you put this in the general discussion area rather than Eurozone I'm thinking you intended the latter? Certainly, the logistics for ski travel to Europe can be intimidating for some of us North Americans that do not get there frequently. The benefits of meeting knowledgeable friends at an Alpine destination would be very significant. Since I have participated in some of the gatherings here in the US I have a few general and specific comments. Those of you who would lead the organization of the gathering need to select a resort destination that works best for YOU. There is no guarantee of who or how many would join you. Set up something that you would enjoy no matter what. Having said that, try to build a core group of early committed participants and this may require some dialog among a small group to select a destination they'd be willing to support monetarily if necessary to reserve dates and accommodations. I would also recommend a time when conditions are likely to be good and crowds moderate if possible. As far as specific destinations, I would guess most of us Americans would favor a large resort with a variety of terrain including challenging terrain, for example, St. Anton, Val d'isere, Tignes, Verbier, Three Valleys, Chamonix, Zermatt, Davos, Dolomites, etc. I would think we'd want to go for a big piece of pie and stay at the dinner table for a whole week since we would be traveling from long distances. Good luck. It is a fun and rewarding thing you are considering.
I would prefer Cervinia as it is cheaper and full of activities.
