I have a trip to alpine/squaw on april 1st.  are the conditions ok or should we bail out and go to Utah (bird/alta)?

Welcome to Epicski!  Have you skied both destinations before?  Help to know what type of terrain you like best.

I don't see any reason to change, at this time.

Don't know what conditions are like in Utah but right now at Squaw/Alpine coverage is good north and east exposures, south and west facing (the spring corn exposures) thin and getting worse, with precipitation forecast for the next week pretty much everyday with snow level around 7500 feet. (Squaw is 6200--8900, alpine 6800-8600).

I would bail if it doesn't cost much.  It's normal to have spring conditions at Squaw/Alpine this time of year, but having nearly half the trails closed due to losing cover (reported snow depth at the base is 9 inches!) is a huge red flag.  Squaw is a steep mountain and needs a deep snowpack. Snowfall through December was 149-250 inches; in nearly 3 months since it's only been 30-66 inches. A predicted snow level of 7,500 (halfway up the hill) should be the clincher in this decision.
